Mitsubishi Mirage G4: The Modern Fleet Commuter

The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is the sedan counterpart of the standard Mirage hatchback. Locally assembled in Santa Rosa, Laguna under the Philippine government’s CARS (Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy) program, it is one of the most prominent vehicles on local roads.

Why it matters

For many Filipinos, the Mirage G4 is their first brand-new car purchase or their ride-sharing business partner. Its simple mechanical design, generous rear cabin legroom, and competitive pricing make it an incredibly accessible daily commuter.

3-Cylinder Efficiency

Powering the Mirage G4 is a tiny 1.2-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine. While it only produces 78 horsepower, the vehicle’s low curb weight (around 900 kg) means it doesn’t need much power to get moving. In real-world highway conditions, the G4 can achieve an astonishing 18–21 km/L fuel economy rating.

Common Issues & Buying Checklist

  1. CVT Fluid Maintenance: The INVECS-III CVT is highly reliable but sensitive to heat. Ensure the previous owner has performed regular CVT fluid flushes every 40,000 km.
  2. AC Compressor Clutch: A common wear item in tropical heat. Listen for a loud clicking sound when the air conditioning cycles on.
  3. NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness): 3-cylinder engines are inherently unbalanced and vibrate more at idle than 4-cylinder engines. Check the engine mounts to ensure they aren’t cracked or worn down.
